I had about a dozen apples, going on their last legs. Tried the crock pot method. FAAAAR superior to my old boil and ricer method. I let em go in the crock pot for about 5 hours, (about half that time on high). Yielded 2 cups of thick, dark applesauce. Try it!!

Grit in Cocoa?

I use Hersey Cocoa Powder and notice tiny grit the last few swigs. I googled but didn't find anything. Anyone else notice this? Like in clam chowder but tinier. Regards, Mike

Freezing and thawing ground beef

Another thread prompted this: Put a pound of ground beef inside a 1-quart freezer bag, pat it flat to fill the bag, removing as much air as possible. Seal, label bag, and freeze flat. Thaws at room temp fast, and even faster if you submerge the sealed bag in a container of cool-warm water. You're welcome. :-)... more »

It has been snowing for over 24 hours here and we have...2 inches. The flakes have been very tiny and by yesterday afternoon there was accumulation on the grass but not the streets. I tried a fun food last night, a box of Jiffy cornmeal made as usual but added 1/4 cup of chocolate syrup. A quick chocolate cake craving fix.
